 Coronel Oviedo is the capital of Caaguazú Department, Republic of Paraguay, with the population of about 50,000.

In 2006, President Chen Shui-bian visited Paraguay under the “Hsing-Yang Project.” On May 6, President Chen visited Coronel Oviedo, the hometown of the President Nicanor Duarte Frutos for co-hosting the official launch ceremony for subsidized housing donated by Taiwan, and received the key to the city from the mayor.
